Lutheran Christians have a long history and calling to education. Here at Grace we have many opportunities for youth Christian education.
Youth Night - Wednesdays 6pm-7:30pm
Wednesday Night is 'Youth Night' here at Grace. It starts with a community meal at 6pm. The meal is open everyone- all youth, their families, and friends; and is free of charge. After supper, we break into different groups for fun and education. Each group is lead by dedicated volunteers who have a passion for Christ, education, and fun!
Akalloo
Akaloo is our program for Elementary School aged youth. Akaloo come from the greek word 'to follow'. In Akaloo, we focus on learning basic Bible stories and foster the beginning of faith through songs, arts & crafts, reading, and games.
Confirmation
Confirmation is one of the oldest Lutheran traditions. In confirmation (which is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders) we focus on confirming our baptismal promises in Christ, thinking about our faith for ourselves, and learning to become adults in the church. After completing the confirmation program, youth are confirmed in the fall of their 9th grade year. Special areas of study include Lutheran Heritage & the small catechism, tough faith choices with real life application, and understanding the Bible in-depth. Once a month in confirmation is 'game night' where we focus on fellowship, team-building exercises, and fun. During the seasons of Advent and Lent, confirmation students help lead the Wednesday night worship services. In summer, all confirmands attend confirmation camp at Carol Joy Holling Camp and retreat center. Confirmation is facilitated by Pastor Josh.
High School Youth
Our High School youth class has two main aspects- growing into an adult faith and learning to serve. In the High School group, a lot of time is spent talking about everyday problems or questions and how our faith can help us. The High School group also spends time each month serving our church and community through various service projects. The pinnacle of our High School group is preparing for the ELCA Youth gathering ever four years, a once in a life-time event to worship, serve, learn, and have fun with all the other ELCA youth of this country!
Bible Basics & First Communion
Once a year, Pastor Josh leads an educational class for children (usually around 3rd or 4th grade) and their families to learn together how to share their faith at home. This class includes the child receiving their first study Bible, learning Bible basics, and learning the story and meaning behind communion. It is a one time class leading towards first communion on Maundy Thursday in Lent. If you have a child who you think is ready for communion, please contact the church office.
